Remodeling marketing built around the design consultation
Remodeling marketing from MBI is homeowner acquisition for a design-build firm, segmented by project type — kitchen, bath, addition, aging-in-place — with a design consultation offer: kitchen and bath direct mail as the first step in a lead-generation and consultation process, Facebook and Instagram awareness and remarketing behind it, and SMS follow-up immediately after a lead to qualify and book an estimate.

Why does remodeling direct mail come before the advertising?
The short answer
Kitchen and bath remodeler direct mail is the first step in a lead-generation and consultation process, with digital advertising used to reinforce the mail piece. Before a remodeling drop, each address in a mailing at commercial First-Class Mail presorted or automation prices, or USPS Marketing Mail prices, must be updated within 95 days before the mailing date.
The three researched campaigns. The three researched remodeling campaigns are a direct-mail campaign that starts a consultation/estimate nurture journey, a Facebook/Instagram awareness and remarketing campaign that routes qualified prospects to an estimate or consultation landing page, and automatic SMS follow-up after a remodeling lead.
Mail first, advertising behind it. Kitchen/bath remodeler direct mail is documented as the first step in a lead-generation and consultation process, with digital advertising used to reinforce the mail piece.
USPS Domestic Mail Manual 602.5 provides that each address, except for mail bearing an alternative address format, in a mailing at commercial First-Class Mail presorted or automation prices or USPS Marketing Mail prices is subject to the Move Update standard, and that each address and associated addressee used on the mailpieces in a mailing must be updated within 95 days before the mailing date with one of the USPS-approved methods, which include Address Change Service and the National Change of Address Linkage System (NCOALink).

Printing
What do remodeling postcards carry, and what else gets printed?
The short answer
The direct-mail campaign starts a consultation and estimate nurture journey; the postcard heads a print list of letters, folded mailers, project guides and brochures, and sales leave-behinds. A remodeling postcard at commercial card prices must be no more than 6 inches high, no more than 9 inches long and no thicker than 0.016 inch.
The formats. Postcards, letters, folded mailers, project guides/brochures and sales leave-behinds.
USPS Domestic Mail Manual 201.1.2.1 sets card-price physical standards at not less than 3-1/2 inches high, 5 inches long and 0.007 inch thick, with a card more than 4-1/4 inches high or 6 inches long, or both, required to be a minimum of 0.009 inch thick; at not more than 4-1/4 inches high, 6 inches long or 0.016 inch thick for each stamped card or each half of a double postcard; and at not more than 6 inches high, 9 inches long or 0.016 inch thick for each postcard. 201.3.7 requires an aspect ratio (length divided by height) of 1.3 to 2.5 inclusive.

How do remodeling Facebook ads work through a long decision cycle?
The short answer
Targeted Facebook and Instagram awareness and remarketing reach homeowners, and a qualified landing-page or estimate flow carries them through the longer decision cycle. MBI builds the audience, writes the creative and builds the page behind the ad, so the advertising and the flow that qualifies a homeowner are one job rather than two.
Awareness, then remarketing. Remodeling sources document targeted Facebook/Instagram awareness and remarketing for homeowners, with a qualified landing-page or estimate flow during the longer decision cycle.
Meta's advertising standards state that advertisers are responsible for understanding and complying with all applicable laws and regulations, and that ads must not promote products, services, schemes or offers using identified deceptive or misleading practices, including those meant to scam people out of money or personal information.

Lead generation
How does remodeling lead generation qualify a project before an estimate?
The short answer
Through the landing page and the follow-up. Meta advertising routes qualified prospects to an estimate or consultation landing page, and SMS follow-up goes out immediately after a lead to qualify the project and book the estimate. MBI runs the ads, builds the page and sends the sequence.
One team. MBI plans, produces and delivers direct mail, print and digital campaigns from a single team in DeLand, Florida, and data, print and delivery have been in-house since 1989.
FTC advertising guidance for small business states that advertising must be truthful and non-deceptive, that advertisers must have evidence to back up their claims, and that advertisements cannot be unfair; an ad is deceptive if it contains a statement, or omits information, that is likely to mislead consumers acting reasonably under the circumstances and is material to a consumer's decision to buy or use the product.

SMS
What does remodeling text message marketing do after a lead arrives?
The short answer
The text goes out immediately: automatic SMS follow-up after a remodeling lead lands right after it arrives, to qualify the project and book the estimate. CTIA's messaging principles say Message Senders should support opt-in mechanisms and that messages should be sent only after the consumer has opted in, so a remodeler's number comes from the homeowner.
Immediately after the lead. Remodeling lead systems document SMS/email follow-up immediately after a lead to qualify and book an estimate; the page states only the SMS half, which is the channel this vertical researches.
CTIA's Messaging Principles and Best Practices state that message senders should support opt-in mechanisms and that messages should be sent only after the consumer has opted in to receive them, and list entering a telephone number through a website, clicking a button on a mobile webpage, sending a message containing an advertising keyword, initiating the text message exchange, signing up at a point-of-sale or other on-site location, and opting in over the phone using interactive voice response among the mechanisms — including but not limited to these — by which a consumer might demonstrate opt-in consent; senders should also document opt-in consent by retaining, where applicable, seven items of data, among them the timestamp of consent acquisition and the consent acquisition medium.
CTIA Messaging Principles and Best Practices, May 2023, §5.1.2
CTIA's Messaging Principles and Best Practices state that message senders should ensure consumers have the ability to opt out of receiving messages at any time, should support multiple mechanisms of opt-out including phone call, email or text, and should acknowledge and honor all opt-out requests by sending one final opt-out confirmation message per campaign; senders should not use opt-in lists that have been rented, sold or shared to send messages and should create and vet their own opt-in lists.

After the lead
The audience
Which remodeling firms does this campaign go after?
The short answer
Design-build firms and remodeling groups with high-ticket kitchens, baths, additions, showrooms, and disciplined sales follow-up. Acquisition is segmented by project type — kitchen, bath, addition, aging-in-place — with a design consultation offer, so a homeowner planning a primary bath and one planning a rear addition are mailed as two audiences.
Who it goes after. Design-build firms and remodeling groups with high-ticket kitchens, baths, additions, showrooms, and disciplined sales follow-up are named as who to go after.
Four project types, four audiences. The expansion research lists four campaigns to run; among them, segment acquisition by project type — kitchen, bath, addition, aging-in-place — with a design consultation offer, and use neighboring-project radius campaigns that showcase process, not just finished imagery.

Questions
Questions a remodeling firm asks before it mails
Searched for remodeling contractor marketing, home remodeling marketing or remodeler marketing? Same work, same answers.
How do the mail, the ads and the text follow-up work together for a remodeler?
Three campaigns, one sequence: a direct-mail campaign that starts a consultation and estimate nurture journey, a Facebook and Instagram awareness and remarketing campaign that routes qualified prospects to an estimate or consultation landing page, and automatic SMS follow-up after a remodeling lead. Digital advertising is used to reinforce the mail piece.
Which houses does a neighboring-project campaign reach?
The homes around a project already under way. Neighboring-project radius campaigns showcase process, not just finished imagery, so what lands nearby shows how the work is done rather than only a finished room. MBI selects those addresses, prints the piece and mails it.
How fast does a new remodeling lead hear back?
Immediately. SMS follow-up goes out right after a lead arrives, to qualify the project and book the estimate; automatic SMS follow-up after a remodeling lead is a campaign of its own. MBI writes and sends that sequence.
Where does the number for a remodeling text come from?
From the homeowner behind the remodeling lead. CTIA's messaging principles say Message Senders should support opt-in mechanisms, that messages should be sent only after the consumer has opted in, and that Message Senders should not use rented, sold or shared opt-in lists; entering a telephone number through a website is one of those mechanisms.
What has to be decided before a remodeling mailing can be quoted?
A remodeling mailer has no list price: every quote resolves to two costs — producing the piece and mailing it — and seven decisions move those two numbers, among them quantity, format and finished size, paper, data and personalization, and postage. The page /capabilities/direct-mail/direct-mail-cost takes a remodeler through all seven.
What does a remodeling firm have to review before an ad makes a claim?
Financing, warranty, permit and before/after claims are reviewed, and project ranges and timelines are quoted as realistic. FTC guidance for small business adds three rules: advertising must be truthful and non-deceptive, advertisers must have evidence to back up their claims, and advertisements cannot be unfair.
Can a campaign show before-and-after photos of a finished project?
Only with homeowner permission, which covers all project imagery and neighborhood outreach. Before/after claims are reviewed as well, so a finished kitchen appears in the mail or the advertising once its owner has agreed to it and the claim beside it has been checked.
