CPA firm marketing for an accounting practice and its prior clients
CPA firm marketing from MBI is three campaigns for a year-round accounting practice: a tax-preparation acquisition postcard carrying a local discount offer and sent as repeated mailings rather than once, a Facebook lead-generation campaign for tax-preparation work, and an opt-in text sequence to prior clients covering scheduling links, tax-season recall, appointment reminders and document-related follow-up.

What does accounting firm direct mail carry, and how often does it go out?
The short answer
It carries an offer, and it goes out more than once. The tax-season acquisition postcard for a CPA or accountant practice carries a local discount offer and is sent as repeated mailings rather than a single drop. MBI designs the card around the firm's offer, prints it and mails the repeats.
The three campaigns. Three campaign concepts are researched for this vertical: a tax-preparation CPA postcard acquisition campaign, a Facebook tax-preparation CPA lead-generation campaign, and an opt-in prior-client tax-preparation scheduling and reminder SMS sequence.
What is documented. Tax-season postcards are documented for tax-preparation CPA/accountant acquisition, including a local discount offer and repeated mailings.
USPS Domestic Mail Manual 602.5 provides that each address, except for mail bearing an alternative address format, in a mailing at commercial First-Class Mail presorted or automation prices or USPS Marketing Mail prices is subject to the Move Update standard, and that each address and associated addressee used on the mailpieces in a mailing must be updated within 95 days before the mailing date with one of the USPS-approved methods, which include Address Change Service and the National Change of Address Linkage System (NCOALink).

Lead generation
Where do CPA lead generation inquiries come from?
The short answer
From two paired campaigns. An acquisition postcard puts a local discount offer in the post, and a Facebook lead-generation campaign for a tax-preparation CPA practice collects the enquiry. MBI designs the card, prints it and mails it, and builds and runs the Facebook campaign that is paired with it.
FTC advertising guidance for small business states that advertising must be truthful and non-deceptive, that advertisers must have evidence to back up their claims, and that advertisements cannot be unfair; that an ad is deceptive if it contains a statement, or omits information, that is likely to mislead consumers acting reasonably under the circumstances and is material to a consumer's decision to buy or use the product; and that an ad or business practice is unfair if it causes or is likely to cause substantial consumer injury which a consumer could not reasonably avoid and it is not outweighed by the benefit to consumers.

What are Facebook ads for accountants paired with?
The short answer
With the mail. The pattern behind them is a tax-season postcard paired with Facebook advertising, alongside a lead-generation campaign for a tax-preparation CPA practice; it is not established across every CPA specialty. MBI builds the ad creative and runs the campaign paired with the postcard rather than in place of it.
How far the evidence reaches. The cited evidence pairs tax-season postcards with Facebook ads and includes a tax-preparation CPA lead-generation case; it is not evidence for every CPA specialty.
Meta's advertising standards state that advertisers are responsible for understanding and complying with all applicable laws and regulations, and that ads must not promote products, services, schemes or offers using identified deceptive or misleading practices, including those meant to scam people out of money or personal information.

Who does CPA client text messaging go to, and what does it say?
The short answer
To prior clients who opted in, and to nobody else. For those clients, a CPA firm's texts cover scheduling links, tax-season recall, appointment reminders and document-related follow-up. MBI writes that sequence, and the consent behind it is the firm's own: CTIA's principles say message senders should not use rented, sold or shared opt-in lists.
CTIA's Messaging Principles and Best Practices state that Message Senders should support opt-in mechanisms and that messages should be sent only after the Consumer has opted-in to receive them; that a Consumer might demonstrate opt-in consent through several mechanisms including entering a telephone number through a website, clicking a button on a mobile webpage, sending a message containing an advertising keyword, initiating the text message exchange, signing up at a point-of-sale or other on-site location, or opting-in over the phone using interactive voice response; and that Message Senders should also document opt-in consent by retaining seven kinds of data where applicable, among them the timestamp of consent acquisition and the consent acquisition medium.
CTIA Messaging Principles and Best Practices, May 2023, §5.1.2
CTIA's Messaging Principles and Best Practices state that Message Senders should ensure that Consumers have the ability to opt-out of receiving Messages at any time, should support multiple mechanisms of opt-out including phone call, email or text, and should acknowledge and honor all Consumer opt-out requests by sending one final opt-out confirmation message per campaign; and that Message Senders should not use opt-in lists that have been rented, sold, or shared to send messages and should create and vet their own opt-in lists.

Printing
How does a CPA firm's postcard get printed and mailed?
The short answer
By one team. Postcards are a CPA firm's printed format, and MBI plans, produces and delivers them from one team in DeLand, Florida, with data, print and delivery in-house since 1989. A postcard at commercial card prices must be no more than 6 inches high, no more than 9 inches long and no thicker than 0.016 inch.
The format. Direct-mail postcards.
In house. Printing at MBI is commercial and variable-data printing, in-house.
USPS Domestic Mail Manual 201.1.2.1 sets commercial card-price dimensional standards at not less than 3-1/2 inches high, 5 inches long and 0.007 inch thick, with cards more than 4-1/4 inches high or 6 inches long, or both, required to be a minimum of 0.009 inch thick; at no more than 4-1/4 inches high, no more than 6 inches long and no thicker than 0.016 inch for each stamped card or each half of a double-stamped card or double postcard; at no more than 6 inches high, no more than 9 inches long and no thicker than 0.016 inch for each postcard; and within an aspect ratio (length divided by height) of 1.3 to 2.5, inclusive, with the exception that mailers may use an 11-inch by 8.5-inch sheet to create four identical-size postcards.

Questions
Questions a CPA firm asks before it mails
Searched for CPA marketing, accounting firm marketing or marketing for CPA firms? Same work, same answers.
What does an accounting firm put on its acquisition card?
A local discount offer. The tax-season acquisition postcard for a CPA or accountant practice carries one, and it is sent as repeated mailings rather than a single drop. MBI builds the card around whatever offer the firm will stand behind, prints it and mails the repeats.
Can a CPA firm's Facebook campaign speak for every specialty?
No. The pattern is tax-preparation work: tax-season postcards paired with Facebook advertising, plus a lead-generation campaign for a tax-preparation CPA practice. It is not established across every CPA specialty, so the firm's other services do not inherit the same claim.
Who has a CPA firm agreed to text, and about what?
Prior clients who opted in. For them, a CPA firm's texts cover four things: scheduling links, tax-season recall, appointment reminders and document-related follow-up. MBI writes the sequence, and it goes only to the clients who opted in.
How does a CPA firm record that a client agreed to be texted?
By keeping the opt-in itself. CTIA's messaging principles say message senders should support opt-in mechanisms, that messages should be sent only after the consumer has opted in, that senders should document consent by retaining seven kinds of data where applicable, among them the timestamp and the medium, and that senders should not use rented, sold or shared opt-in lists.
What is being priced when a CPA firm asks for a postcard quote?
Two things: producing the accounting firm's acquisition postcard, and mailing it. Seven decisions move those two numbers, among them Quantity, Format and finished size, Paper and weight, and Postage, mail class, and sortation. All seven are set out at /capabilities/direct-mail/direct-mail-cost, and a firm's card is quoted against its own specification.
How current do the addresses on a CPA firm's mailing have to be?
Updated within 95 days before the accounting firm's postcard mails. USPS requires each address in a mailing at commercial First-Class Mail presorted or automation prices, or USPS Marketing Mail prices, to be updated within 95 days before the mailing date by an approved method such as NCOALink; mail bearing an alternative address format is excepted.
What must a CPA firm be able to stand behind in an advertisement?
Every claim printed on it. FTC guidance says advertising must be truthful and non-deceptive, advertisers must have evidence to back up their claims, and advertisements cannot be unfair. An ad is deceptive when a statement or omission is likely to mislead consumers acting reasonably under the circumstances and is material to their decision.
